Duke Ellington



This biography about Duke Ellington is apart of a series of books called Getting to Know the World's Greatest Composers. This book tracks his life starting with his birth and ending with his death and greatest accomplishments. Ellington is a famous jazz musician. The book first gives a brief description of what jazz is, its origin, and the key components of jazz. The book is made up comic strip like illustrations and dialogue bubbles, as well as portraits and old photographs.

This book could be used in class during black history month. The teacher could read a book a day about a famous African American. This book could also be used during a unit on music and its place in history and society as a whole.
