Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle

In this fiction book, "Mister Seahorse" by Eric Carle, readers are entertained by an allure of colorful collage like art work. The main character, Mr. Seahorse, is doing what good father seahorses do, and caring for his unborn babies. On his journey through the ocean, he meets other fathers who are caring for their babies in their own special way. Though this illustration book is a fictional story, it is based off of factual events and rituals many sea creatures, portrayed in the book, practice.
This book could be used in the classroom when teachers are doing units on family. It would be useful in show how families can be seen in other living things. Students would learn about the responsibilities and roles of a parent. "Mr. Seahorse" would be a great book to read as well if you are learning about marine life, or the Coral Reef in particular. The illustrations do a great job of bringing the ocean to life for young children and interested readers.
